The AA and Motorway Direct are conducting an audit of dealers currently selling AA Warranty products in a move aimed at raising the standard of participating sites.

New van sales rise by 22% in October

The new van market continued to outperform the car sector in October with year-on-year sales up 22.4 per cent to 18,147 units.
This provided a further boost to year-to-date sales which are tracking at 18.7 per cent ahead of last year on sales of 186,701. New van sales fell by 35.6 per cent in 2009.

RMI to launch consumer garage scheme

Trade body the Retail Motor Industry is to launch a scheme for garages to bring it closer to motorists.

The consumer scheme, entitled Trust My Garage, will be rolled out in a few weeks.
The RMI said it will not clash with Motor Codes, the body which operates the consumer codes of practice for the motor industry. RMI chairman Paul Williams, speaking at the RMI Annual Dinner in London, said the RMI was supportive of Motor Codes.

Specialist skills in demand in dealer job sector

The dealer recruitment market is witnessing high demand for specialist skill sets, according to a special report in the October edition of Motor Trader.

“The overwhelming demand in recruitment for us is in aftersales,” said Guy Liddall, managing director of Motor Trade Selection, the recruitment specialist.

Used van values dip in September

Average LCV auction values slipped by £65 in September, according to BCA.

The auction house attributed the dip to a change of model mix which saw volumes of cheaper part-exchange vehicles increase by 25 per cent over the month.
BCA said the fall came despite a competitive marketplace that saw increased demand outstripping available supply and high levels of trading activity throughout the month.

Co-op Motor Group launches aftersales price matching

The Co-operative Motor Group has launched an aftersales initiative to price match any like-for-like servicing and repair quote using genuine manufacturer parts.

As part of the new service the group will also carry out a full vehicle safety inspection as standard and customers will be offered a range of mobility options to keep them on the road while their vehicle is in the dealership.

Dealer profitability up as supermarkets look at car retailing
